Felix Rentschler - Electric Guitar and Vocal

Born in Ouagadougou, Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso) central Africa and raised a little all over the globe but mostly from Wash. DC, Felix the Funky Cat soaked up many musical influences from many sources. He now combines East coast funk with jazz and afro styles, mixes in some snowboarding and Disc Golf and soaks it all in supreme acid-in-the-eyes psychedelia. After giving up piano due to a Morticia of the Adams Family type teacher and failling at flute due to dizziness from blowing he picked up the guitar at age 15 and never put it down. His favorite guitarists include Pat Metheny, Allan Holdsworth, John McLaughlin, Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, and Trey Anastasio. His favorite bands include The Beatles, The Stones, The Dead, and all the incarnations of Gong. Felix graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1987 and went on to tour nationally and internationally with the psychedelic funk band Shockra, the 10 piece horn band Heavy Metal Horns, and the roots rock hippie band Another Planet. His halucinatory compositions, searing rythms and scorching leads can be found on many CDs from these ensembles. He has shared the stage with such notables as Dr. John, Little Richard, Maceo Parker, Al Jareau, Stephen Tyler, The Dirty Dozen, The Aquarium Rescue Unit, The Spin Doctors, Derek Trucks, Moe and Phish. Now living in New Bedford, MA, the Funkster is taking a break from the road to raise his daughter Ella who has just started elementary school. You can catch him teaching guitar lessons or performing with local bands THUNK (southern rock, jam and prog), the Dancing Dogs (funk, latin, world beat) and his jazz trio when he's not hurling frisbees on the Disc Golf course or shreddin' the pow-pow and catching big air on his snowboard.
